Privacy Policy

Chatter is built on the principle that your conversations belong to you. We collect the minimum data needed to operate the service, never sell it, and protect every message with end-to-end encryption.

• Account data — your name, email address, and a hashed password (or Google OAuth identifier).
• Profile data — optional avatar, status, and preferences you choose to set.
• Message metadata — sender, recipient, timestamps, and delivery state. Message content is end-to-end encrypted and unreadable to us.
• Device data — IP address, device type, and browser user-agent for security and abuse prevention.
• Media uploads — files you send are stored encrypted in object storage and deleted on account deletion.

• Deliver messages, presence, and notifications.
• Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
• Diagnose service errors and prevent fraud or abuse.
• Communicate critical product or security updates.

We do not sell your data. We do not show ads. We do not train AI models on your messages.

We share data only with sub-processors strictly necessary to run Chatter — for example, cloud hosting, email delivery, and error monitoring. Each is bound by a data processing agreement and may not use your data for any other purpose.

Account and profile data are retained for as long as your account is active. Server-side message metadata is retained for up to 30 days. When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently erased within 30 days, except where retention is legally required.

You may access, correct, export, or delete your data at any time from your profile settings. To remove your data entirely, see our data deletion instructions.

Messages are end-to-end encrypted with keys held only on your devices. Transport is protected by TLS 1.3. Stored data is encrypted at rest. We follow industry best practices for access control, audit logging, and incident response.

Chatter is not intended for anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

If we make material changes, we will notify you in-app or by email at least 30 days before the change takes effect.
